Wellington, Mar 13(ANI): New Zealand fast bowlers Shane Bond and Tim Southee claimed four wickets each to defeat Australia by 51 runs and take a consolation victory in the final ODI at Wellington on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 243 to win, Australia was bundled out for 190 runs in 46.1 overs.

The world champions had already retained the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy with three wins in the first four matches.

Earlier in the day, Kiwi batsman Scott Styris scored 55 off 101 balls with the help of two boundaries and one six to help the Black Caps recover from 32-3 to set a target of 242.

Styris also formed vital partnerships of 53 and 68 with Ross Taylor (30) and Daniel Vettori (28).

Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Clint McKay were the most successful bowlers for the visitors taking two wickets each.

In reply, Australian opener Shane Watson top-scored for Australia with 53, but man-of-the-match Southee grabbed a career-best 4-36 and Bond was impressive with his 4-26 for the Kiwis, Fox Sports reports.

Bond removed Australian opener Brad Haddin and skipper Ricky Ponting in successive balls to derail the Australians innings.

Ponting was given out caught behind by Kiwi umpire Gary Baxter although the ball appeared to have missed his gloves before clipping his helmet.

Southee ripped out the middle order and dismissed Adam Voges (five), Cameron White (six) and Michael Hussey in quick succession.
